Skin pathology terms are a pathogen or process root plus a structure root plus a condition suffix — which is why onychomycosis, dermatomycosis and trichomycosis are one pattern in three locations rather than three separate facts. Click between the letters to place your slashes, match every part to a meaning, then read the term backward from the suffix. The drill at the bottom is where students actually lose marks.

How to read any of them
Split at the combining vowel, then read from the suffix backward. dermat/o/myc/osis reads as abnormal condition, of fungus, of the skin. The combining vowel is not a part with a meaning — it is the joint. It survives before a suffix that starts with a consonant and disappears before one that starts with a vowel, which is why myc keeps no vowel before -osis but dermat keeps its o before myc.
