Nutrition · Module 2 · Digestion, absorption and transport

Digestion Lab

Run a meal through the GI tract on a time slider, watch nutrients cross an intestinal cell, practise enzymes, routes and digestion math, sort it all out, and apply it to real-life cases. Nothing here is graded.

MeasureValue

A teaching model. Stomach emptying time is estimated from the meal's carbohydrate, protein and fat (fat slows it most); small-intestine transit is set to about 4 hours and large-intestine transit to about a day. Real times vary widely between people and meals. Bars show the share of each nutrient that is still in whole food, partly digested, or absorbed as its smallest units.
