Traditional Systems Lab

Run your own trial of a traditional practice with real, sham and no treatment arms, watch an herb change a drug level, practise predicting results, sort ideas by tradition and evidence, and work through real life conversations. Every number is a rounded teaching model in relative units, with no doses. Nothing here is graded.

Part 1: Testing a Tradition

Teaching modelA simulated randomized trial. Each dot is one fictional participant with chronic pain scored 0 to 10. You set how much people recover naturally, how much expectation and the treatment ritual help, and how big the true specific effect is. The trial then shows what each comparison can and cannot tell you.

How the model works: improvement in each arm is natural recovery (all arms) plus the nonspecific effect of expectation and the treatment ritual (real and sham arms) plus the true specific effect (real arm only), each building over 12 weeks, plus random person to person variation (standard deviation 1.5 points). For the nature walk, the comparison is a city walk; people know where they walk, so only about half of the expectation effect is matched. Uncertainty ranges are 95% confidence intervals. Simplified for learning.
