Percussion answers one question quickly: is there air where there should be air? Decide whether each note is expected at that exact spot, abnormal, or the product of bad technique — then mark the diaphragm on full expiration and full inspiration and measure the excursion on both sides. Resonance is the expected lung note; everything else has to be explained.
